caldera’s work with students continues beyond the school year and into the summer season. every summer, over 200 kids experience life-changing arts retreats at our extraordinary blue lake facility in the oregon cascades. for eight to seventeen days students from diverse ethnic, urban and rural oregon communities retreat into the mountains to take part in deep learning experiences that build community. trained advocates support small teams of students in community circles, campfires, performances and a challenge course, creating a supportive peer group united by shared positive experience. each day students take part in workshops taught by professional artists who are also gifted teachers. courses typically include music, painting, filmmaking, photography, fiber arts, dance and creative writing and provide rich connections to caldera’s stunningly beautiful outdoor environment. the application process for 2009 has closed.  please check back in march 2010 for next summer’s application.
