Hello Sisters Reception this Friday Evening

Caldera is pleased to announce the details of Hello Sisters the newest component of the Hello Neighbor project.

Hello Neighbor is a student art based community-building project created to inspire neighbors to connect with each other.

A Hello Sisters public reception will be held on Friday, October 9, 4:30 – 6:00 pm at Navigator News at 143 E Hood. Ave., in Sisters. Refreshments will be served.

About the Hello Neighbor Project Caldera photographers Julie Keefe and Tyler Kohlhoff worked with students from Kit Stafford’s Discovery class at Sisters Middle School in this Hello Sisters project.  With Julie and Tyler’s guidance, the students identified, interviewed and photographed a diverse array of their neighbors in Sisters. From their work, the students created photo-and-word portraits, which will be printed on large format (7′ X 5′) vinyl banners and displayed throughout Sisters.

The banners will be displayed for two months, beginning October 9, at the following locations:

Sisters School District Office (525 E. Cascade Ave.)
Bedouin (143 E. Hood Ave.)
Sisters Bakery (251 E. Cascade Ave.)
Sisters Market (110 W. Cascade Ave.)
Bronco Billy’s Ranch Grill (190 E. Cascade Ave.)

Caldera’s Hello Neighbor was recently chosen for recognition as a 2009 Coming Up Taller Semifinalist by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities and was featured in the 2007 National Endowment for the Arts Annual Report.

Hello Neighbor is also a featured program with Americans for the Arts.

Art Show at KeyBank

September 22nd, 2009

A grand opening housewarming party for the new KeyBank location at 14th and Lovejoy in the Pearl District will take place during First Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. on October 1. The reception will feature work by youth artists from Caldera, a nonprofit arts organization based in the Pearl District. The art will be on display through the 14th of October.

KNRK 94.7 radio personality Gustav will be the guest host and Painted Grey will play live music. Wine, beer and appetizers will complete the festivities.

In addition to making a $2,500 grand opening gift to Caldera, all artwork sold at the opening will benefit the young artists and their organization. “We intend to be an active part of this community,” said Carla Mansur, branch manager. “And inviting our friends and neighbors to enjoy Caldera’s art at a First Thursday housewarming party is a great way to get started.”

Caldera’s mission is to be a catalyst for transformation through innovative art and environmental programs. Caldera’s youth program provides underserved Oregon children with year-round, long-term mentoring through arts and nature projects, beginning at age 11 and continuing through young adulthood.
